About this position

The University of Strasbourg is offering a fully funded PhD position in the Schacherer lab, focusing on phasing polyploid genomes to decipher their phenotypic and adaptive potential. The research will explore the genomic complexity of natural polyploids by phasing the genomes of several hundred individuals from two yeast species, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Brettanomyces bruxellensis. The project involves long- and short-read sequencing data analysis to generate phased genome assemblies, which will be used to characterize structural variation and better understand genome evolution in polyploids. The goal is to gain insights into the phenotypic and adaptive potential of polyploid organisms.

The laboratory will move to the IGBMC, a leading European research institute dedicated to understanding human disease and fundamental biological mechanisms at the molecular level. The PhD project is part of the ANR PolyPhase collaborative research program and will involve co-supervision at the Genoscope. The position is expected to start in Spring 2026 and is funded for 36 months.

Applicants should have a Master's degree in bioinformatics, experience with Python or bash scripting and R programming, prior experience with sequencing data processing (an asset), and proficiency in English with good communication skills.
