About this position
PhD position in Responsible AI at the University of Vienna, Faculty of Computer Science, in the Responsible Machine Learning (ML) Group led by Prof. Dr. Martin Pawelczyk. What's required
Applicants must have a completed or near-completed Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. A solid background in machine learning, statistics and/or mathematics is required, along with strong Python programming skills and ideally experience with a major deep learning framework such as PyTorch or JAX. The post prefers candidates with an early research track record, such as a strong Master’s thesis, open-source contributions, or workshop papers. Excellent written and spoken English, intrinsic motivation, curiosity, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are required. Desirable experience includes training or fine-tuning large-scale models in distributed settings, SLURM/Linux workflows, prior research lab experience, publications, open-source contributions, and teaching experience.
