About this position

PhD opportunity at the University of Zaragoza within the ROMEO project, funded by the Horizon Europe ERC programme (ERC-2024-ADG; GA nº 101201543).

The project addresses a key challenge in nanomedicine: fewer than 1% of current nanoparticles reach their intended target because many are captured by macrophages in the liver and spleen. The doctoral research will contribute to developing a new generation of carriers that preserve tumor-targeting capability while avoiding these biological barriers.

Main research activities include the synthesis and functionalization of nanoparticles, modification and loading of extracellular vesicles, and analysis of data related to cellular uptake of nanoparticles and extracellular vesicles. The position is therefore highly relevant for candidates interested in nanostructures, targeted delivery, and quantitative analysis in biomedical research.

Academic background and profile: the call is open to candidates with a Master’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering. Experience in nanoparticle synthesis and characterization, extracellular vesicles, and computer science/IT applied to data analysis in biological environments will be especially valued. The selection process is merit-based and includes assessment of academic record, research experience, and data analysis/bioinformatics experience, with the possibility of an interview if the committee agrees.

Host institution: Universidad de Zaragoza, at the I.U.I. Mixto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón (INMA), Zaragoza, Spain. The appointment is full-time and temporary, with 37.5 hours per week.

Application deadline: 8 September 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Madrid). Applications must be submitted through the indicated website/PDF notice, and only CV merits supported by documentary evidence received by the deadline will be taken into account.
