About this position
PhD position at Technische Universität Berlin in Semiconductor Optoelectronics and Nanostructures, within the Semiconductor Nano- and Quantum Materials Group and in collaboration with the Paul Drude Institute (PDI) Berlin.
The project is part of a newly funded DFG research grant and focuses on intervalley scattering in one-dimensional semiconductor nanowire photovoltaic devices. The research aims to understand carrier dynamics in nanostructures and develop strategies to overcome efficiency limitations in these devices.
Research activities include optical and electrical characterization of semiconductor nanowire devices, steady-state and time-resolved optical spectroscopy, electrical transport measurements, hot-carrier thermodynamics using the generalized Planck radiation law, quantum-transport modeling with self-consistent Schrödinger–Poisson simulations, nanofabrication in cleanroom facilities, and setup/optimization of optical and electrical measurement systems.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree or equivalent in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, with an outstanding academic record, strong knowledge of solid-state physics and semiconductor nanostructures, and excellent English skills. Experience with sensitive optoelectronic measurements and quantum-transport simulations is an advantage.
The position is fully funded through the DFG project and is expected to start in early 2027. Interested candidates are asked to send a CV, motivation letter, and academic transcripts to Prof. Gregor Koblmüller and Dr. Hamidreza Esmaielpour.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
