About this position

The University of Southern Denmark, Department of Health Services Research, invites expressions of interest for a PhD position linked to the Research Unit for Health Promotion (SUND) and the Center for Rural Research (CLF-SAMF).

The project topic is “Social Drive Out as a health promotion practice in the lives of socially disadvantaged citizens”. It focuses on how vulnerable citizens experience and give meaning to outreach health promotion efforts, and on the practical competencies, professional approaches, and relational actions used by employees and volunteers in this setting.

This is a qualitative PhD project with room to further define the project together with the selected student. The work is carried out in close collaboration between health promotion researchers and rural research/political science colleagues, and the place of employment is Campus Esbjerg.

Eligibility highlights: a relevant Master’s degree in public health or social sciences; strong qualitative and analytical skills; interest in social marginalization, vulnerability, and the social, cultural, and institutional mechanisms shaping participation and living conditions; experience with qualitative methods, preferably mixed methods; and strong communication and collaboration skills.

Funding: salaried PhD appointment under the applicable Danish agreement for PhD fellows. The position lasts three years.

Application: submit a motivated application, CV, and degree certificates/transcripts electronically via the application portal. Applications by email are not accepted. Deadline: 2026-09-15.
