PhD Position | MSCA Doctoral Network | SUPER | Good Governance for Sustainable Physical Activity and Sport Practice through Intergenerational Experiences and Solutions within the Built Environment: Engaging School Settings and Community Centres Universitat Ramon Llull in Spain

This PhD position is part of the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network, SUPER (Sustainable Sports and Physical Activity for Equity and Resilience), hosted at Blanquerna – Universitat Ramon Llull. The project aims to radically rethink how physical activity is promoted and practiced to address climate change, focusing on advancing intergenerational active mobility by fostering meaningful connections between children and older adults. The research will center on co-creating sustainable urban spaces that promote safe, inclusive, and active mobility across generations, engaging both school settings and community centres.

The doctoral candidate will synthesize evidence through a systematic review of intergenerational active mobility interventions, assess enabling environments using citizen-science approaches, co-design solutions with children, grandparents, families, and community stakeholders, embed sustainability by evaluating strategies based on environmental and resource-efficiency criteria, strengthen governance by developing evidence-based guidelines for urban policy, and test real-world impact through pilot interventions. The candidate will report findings in scientific articles and a PhD dissertation, present at national and international conferences, and contribute to the wider SUPER project and educational activities within the consortium.

Applicants must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (public health, health science, urban planning, environmental science, sports science, or related), strong interest in sustainable physical activity, urban design, and intergenerational health, experience in participatory or citizen science methods, excellent analytical and data management skills, and strong communication skills in Spanish and English. Desirable qualifications include understanding Catalan and experience working with younger, older, and vulnerable populations. MSCA eligibility conditions apply: applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree and must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment.

The position offers a full-time PhD fellowship for three years, with a fee-free PhD registration. Funding includes a monthly living allowance (€4010, subject to country correction coefficient), mobility allowance (€710), and family allowance (€660, if applicable), all subject to tax and contributions.
