About this position
Hossein Jahromi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosystems Engineering at Auburn University, is recruiting two Ph.D. students for an expected start date of Fall 2027 (August 2027).
The research group works broadly on thermochemical conversion of biomass into fuels, chemicals, and other value-added products. Potential directions include CO2 capture and conversion using biochar and other carbon-based materials, electrochemical CO2 capture and conversion, integrated electrochemical and thermochemical conversion systems, biomass thermochemical conversion (including pyrolysis, gasification, hydrothermal processing, and related catalytic processes), and biopolymer development for adhesives, coating materials, and thermoplastics.
Students with backgrounds in biosystems engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Helpful experience includes thermochemical conversion, catalysis, electrochemistry, biochar, reaction engineering, polymer synthesis and characterization, and process modeling.
