Hossein Jahromi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosystems Engineering at Auburn University, is recruiting two Ph.D. students for an expected start date of Fall 2027 (August 2027) . The research group works broadly on thermochemical conversion of biomass into fuels, chemicals, and other value-added products. Potential directions include CO2 capture and conversion using biochar and other carbon-based materials , electrochemical CO2 capture and conversion , integrated electrochemical and thermochemical conversion systems, biomass thermochemical conversion (including pyrolysis , gasification , hydrothermal processing , and related catalytic processes), and biopolymer development for adhesives, coating materials, and thermoplastics. Students with backgrounds in biosystems engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry , or related fields are encouraged to apply. Helpful experience includes thermochemical conversion, catalysis, electrochemistry, biochar, reaction engineering, polymer synthesis and characterization, and process modeling.
