About this position

PhD positions in Immunogenetics at University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), Netherlands.

The Immunogenetics lab is recruiting two highly motivated PhD candidates to study how genetic, immunologic, and environmental factors shape immune-mediated disease, with a strong emphasis on celiac disease (CeD). The project combines molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, bioinformatics, and Next Generation Sequencing to investigate disease onset and progression.

Research will expand patient-derived model systems to include mucosal immunological and microbiome components, helping to reveal barrier function, interactions with intestinal lymphocytes, and possible viral or bacterial involvement in disease pathways. The lab also works with CRISPR/Cas9 genetic engineering in ASC and/or iPSC-derived organoid and intestine-on-chip models, as well as intestinal tissue-resident lymphocytes. The broader relevance extends beyond CeD to other immune-mediated diseases such as IBD, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Eligibility highlights: recently graduated MSc in Molecular Biology, Immunology, or Biomedical Sciences; strong English writing and presentation skills; team-oriented; curious and ambitious; background in molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, and/or data analysis preferred.

Funding: the posting lists a salary range of €3.22k–€4.08k/year. No deadline is stated in the text.

How to apply: submit your application through the UniversityPositions/UMCG job page. Review the posting carefully and follow the employer's application instructions on the linked page.
