About this position

The CoRDS Doctoral Network, titled "Confident Data-Driven Decision Support," is now accepting applications for 15 fully funded PhD positions across leading European universities and research institutions. The network is coordinated by Professor Kevin Tierney at the University of Vienna and includes hosts at Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, Eindhoven University of Technology, IT-Universitetet i København, Tilde, University College Cork, Universitat de Lleida, University of Warwick, and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Research topics span machine learning, operations research, large language models, logistics, production, game theory, and a strong emphasis on trustworthy AI principles such as fairness, interpretability, and robustness. The program aims to develop data-driven optimization (DDO) methods that integrate advanced analytics and machine learning to solve real-world problems in key sectors including logistics, healthcare, public transportation, manufacturing, consulting, and communication.

PhD candidates will benefit from a collaborative, international environment, working closely with fellow researchers and industry partners such as Hapag-Lloyd, SANQUIN, Electrolux Italia, Allianz, Elsevier, OPTANO, OMP, Cargoful, Fondazione LINKS, Gruppo Torinese Trasporti, and University Hospital of Bologna IRCCS Sant’ Orsola Polyclinic. The network is funded by The European Union under The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks programme, providing competitive stipends, tuition coverage, and support for research and training activities.

Applicants should have a strong background in machine learning, operations research, optimization, or related quantitative fields, and demonstrate interest in trustworthy AI. Eligibility requirements and application procedures are detailed on the CoRDS website. The application deadline is January 6, 2026.
