About this position

TU Delft (QuTech) is recruiting several PhD candidates for research on silicon-carbide quantum networks in the Taminiau lab. The project focuses on spin defects in SiC, fast optical entanglement links, high-fidelity spin-qubit control, and the development of scalable quantum networks for distributed quantum computation, simulation, and communication.

The research combines nanofabrication, nanophotonics, quantum optics, and experimental work on quantum devices. Students will help design and fabricate nano-photonic SiC devices and use quantum optics experiments to demonstrate small but scalable network building blocks.

Eligible applicants should hold an MSc in applied physics, quantum technologies, materials science, or a related field. Motivation for nanofabrication and device characterization is important. Prior experience in device fabrication, nanophotonics, or experimental quantum physics is welcome but not required. English proficiency is expected for doctoral study at TU Delft.

The position is based at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. The appointment is a 4-year PhD employment package with salary from €3204 to €4051 gross per month, plus holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus. TU Delft also mentions health insurance discounts, a monthly work costs contribution, and relocation support through Coming to Delft Service.

Applications must be submitted online by 15 December 2026. Upload a CV and motivational letter, and address the application to Dr. Tim Taminiau.
