About this position
PhD opportunity in quantum error correction for cat qubits at Alice & Bob, Paris. This project is part of QuBriC, the first European MSCA Doctoral Network entirely dedicated to quantum error correction, and sits at the intersection of classical coding theory, quantum information, and quantum hardware.
The doctoral project, Code construction & logic for biased-noise qubits, focuses on designing high-rate quantum error correction codes and logical-gate protocols tailored to the unique noise properties of Schrödinger cat qubits. Cat qubits are superconducting qubits with strongly biased noise, especially suppressed bit-flip errors, opening the door to more efficient fault-tolerant architectures. The role will involve lifted-product and asymmetric-distance code constructions, co-design of logical operations, and validation through hardware-in-the-loop simulations and small-scale cat-qubit experiments.
The position is hosted in Alice & Bob’s Error Correction team and supervised by Dr Christophe Vuillot, with academic co-supervision by Mike Vasmer (Inria Paris). The doctoral degree will be awarded by Sorbonne Université. The work contributes directly to the company’s roadmap toward a universal fault-tolerant quantum computer and to QuBriC’s shared library of codes, logical protocols, datasets, and tools for biased-noise qubits.
The project includes training in QEC foundations, coding theory, decoders, architectures, and hardware integration, plus secondments that may take place at Inria (France), TU Delft (Netherlands), and the University of Navarra (Spain), depending on project progress. The working language is English and the position is based in Paris with a hybrid working model.
Eligibility highlights: an MSc in Quantum Engineering or Physics by the recruitment date, a solid background in quantum information or quantum computing, strong Python skills, and excellent English. Applicants must meet MSCA doctoral candidate rules, including not already holding a doctorate and respecting the mobility requirement for France.
Funding: this is a paid 36-month employment contract with gross salaries of €37,000 in year 1, €42,000 in year 2, and €47,000 in year 3, plus full French social security coverage.
Deadline: 18 December 2026, 23:59 (Europe/Paris).
