What's required

Applicants must hold a completed Master’s degree equivalent to a Norwegian five-year Master’s in a relevant technical or natural science field such as materials science, biomaterials, mechanical engineering, solid mechanics, physics/applied physics, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related discipline; candidates with dentistry or dental technology backgrounds may also be considered if they have an equivalent qualifying degree and strong interest or experience in dental materials, mechanical testing, or imaging-based materials analysis. An average grade of B or better at Master’s level and on the Master’s thesis is required. Applicants need documented hands-on laboratory experience in at least one central project area such as materials testing, wear/tribology, mechanical testing, additive manufacturing, surface characterisation, microscopy, or X-ray computed tomography. Strong written and spoken English is required, and applicants educated outside the EU/EEA must document English proficiency according to faculty rules. Admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo is mandatory. Experience with wear testing, fatigue, fracture mechanics, additive manufacturing, micro-CT, 4D imaging, digital volume correlation, surface metrology, statistics in R/Python, dental crown materials, or Scandinavian languages is advantageous.
