About this position

PhD Research Fellow opportunity in Psycholinguistics, Multilectalism, and Language Processing at Volda University College (HVO), Norway, in the Department of Language and Literature.

The project, Multilectal Individual Differences in Reading (MInDReading), examines how exposure to different language varieties, including dialects and written standards, shapes real-time language processing in reading and listening. The research combines questionnaire development, EEG studies, and eye-tracking experiments, making it especially relevant for applicants interested in linguistics, psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, and experimental language research.

This is a fully funded 3-year, full-time PhD position. The post includes access to research infrastructure and lab facilities, collaboration with national partners such as UiT, the University of Oslo, and the University of Bergen, opportunities for international research stays, a salary on the Norwegian state scale (about 550,800 NOK/year), and membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in linguistics or a related field (for example psychology or cognitive science), strong English proficiency, and experience with experimental and/or quantitative language research. Preferred experience includes R, EEG, eye-tracking, multilingual or dialectal variation, and Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.

Application deadline: 22 June 2026. Applicants should prepare an application letter, a 1–2 page motivation and relevance statement, CV, diplomas and transcripts, referee contacts, and a writing sample. Applications may be submitted in English or a Scandinavian language.
