About this position
PhD Research Fellow in soft matter, chemistry/physical chemistry, and peptide-membrane interactions at the University of Oslo, Department of Chemistry. The position is part of the interdisciplinary convergence environment PERMEATE – Peptides for Membrane Targeting and Synergistic Drug Delivery, which brings together expertise from computational sciences, chemistry, pharmacy, biology, and medicine.
The project focuses on understanding how peptides interact with membranes and on developing lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for applications in cancer therapy and bacterial infection treatment. Research topics include structural and dynamical characterization of peptide effects on membrane systems, organic synthesis and click chemistry for LNP building blocks, and advanced experimental work using X-ray/neutron scattering, QCM-D, AFM, SEC-MALS/A4F, NMR, fluorescence, and UV/vis spectroscopy, supported by quantitative data analysis.
Applicants should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, physical chemistry, biophysics, physics, or a related field. Required experience includes practical wet-lab work, basic organic chemistry skills, and some programming/numerical methods. Strong English skills are required, and the post also emphasizes motivation for multidisciplinary collaboration, independent work, structured execution, and good communication.
The fellowship is for three years, with a possible fourth year including 25% career-promoting work such as teaching or supervision. Salary is listed at NOK 550,800–595,000 depending on competence and experience. The position is based in Oslo, Norway, at the Life Science Building, University of Oslo.
