About this position
PhD Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo for the project “Truth, Information, Democracy and Law” (TIDAL), based at the Department of Private Law and the Norwegian Research Center for Computers and Law (NRCCL).
The project examines the legal preconditions for a well-functioning democracy in an era of disinformation, misinformation, and broader information disorder. The research is cross-disciplinary and connects law with social science and information science perspectives, including policy field studies, stakeholder viewpoints, legal-regulatory scholarship, and analysis of EU and global regulatory strategies.
The PhD fellow will work closely with the TIDAL team, contribute to data collection, coding, and analysis, write research outputs, participate in dissemination, and assist with project operations. The final PhD topic will be developed with the project leader after appointment.
Eligibility: a Norwegian five-year Master’s degree in Law, or an equivalent qualification with a strong legal component; strong academic results are normally expected. Excellent English is required, and knowledge of Norwegian, Danish, or Swedish is desirable.
Funding and terms: three-year PhD fellowship, or four years with 25% career-enhancing work. Salary range NOK 550,800–600,000. The position is a recruitment post leading to a PhD degree.
