About this position
Fundació Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR) in Barcelona, Spain, is recruiting a PhD researcher for the Clinical Neuroimmunology area within the VHIR Neuroimmunology Research Group / CEMCAT.
The project is titled “Epigenetic Vitamin D Deficiency Blueprint in Multiple Sclerosis” and sits at the interface of immunology, epigenetics, neurobiology, translational medicine, and biology. The selected candidate will work with patient samples and experimental mouse models to study how environmental factors shape the epigenome and contribute to autoimmune disease susceptibility, especially multiple sclerosis.
Main tasks include epigenetic and gene expression analyses, molecular and cellular biology experiments (DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, chromatin profiling, immunological assays), omics data analysis, and contribution to murine model characterisation and monitoring. The role also includes presenting results at meetings and conferences and helping prepare manuscripts and reports.
This is a PhD opening (not a postdoc or master’s position). Applicants should have a health sciences degree, an official university master’s degree that qualifies for doctoral studies, a valid animal experimentation licence (Level C or D), a minimum grade of 8.5/10 in both degree and master’s, and advanced Spanish and English. Desirable experience includes epigenetic regulation, molecular biology, animal models, and genomic/transcriptomic/epigenomic data analysis.
Funding and contract details follow the Amics del VHIR PhD Call 2026; the post is full-time (37.5 hours/week) with a gross annual salary according to the call. Expected start date is January–March 2027.
Apply via the VHIR jobs portal before 24 Aug 2026. The post also links to the group pages for VHIR Neuroimmunology and CEMCAT for more information.
