About this position

Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management (MINA), is offering a 3-year PhD scholarship in Environmental Radiochemistry in Ås, Norway.

The project focuses on radionuclide transport, radioanalytical techniques, geochemical speciation, and numerical modelling for nuclear waste management and decommissioning. The successful candidate will study the behavior of redox-sensitive radionuclides in engineered and natural environments, including cementitious and geological materials, and will contribute to long-term safety assessments.

Research activities include laboratory experiments, chemical characterization, radioanalytical measurements, transport and geochemical modelling, data analysis, scientific writing, and dissemination. The position is funded through the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre (NNRC) and offers a salary in the range of NOK 550,800–660,000.

Eligibility: applicants must have a relevant master's degree (or equivalent) in radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, geochemistry, physics, or a related field, and must meet NMBU PhD admission requirements. Strong English proficiency is required; experience with environmental radioactivity, laboratory work with radioactive sources, PHREEQC/COMSOL, R/Python/MATLAB, cementitious materials, and statistics is advantageous.

Application deadline: 16 August 2026. Apply online through Jobbnorge and upload the required documents, including motivation letter, CV, diplomas/transcripts, English documentation, and any relevant publications or supporting evidence.
