About this position
Uppsala University’s Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory is recruiting a PhD student in chemistry to work on polymer-based solid-state batteries. The project is part of the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre and focuses on developing and investigating anode-free sodium batteries based on polymer electrolytes.
The research combines polymer science, materials chemistry, electrochemistry, and spectroscopy. The successful candidate will work on materials development, battery cell fabrication, electrochemical testing, and spectroscopic analysis, especially X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The project is carried out in close international collaboration with the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and short- or longer-term research visits to Taiwan may be relevant.
This is a full-time temporary PhD position in Uppsala, Sweden. The post may include teaching and other departmental duties, but these will be limited to no more than 20% of working time. The position is not funded by an EU programme.
Eligibility: applicants must have a second-cycle degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science, or equivalent qualifications, and must demonstrate very good oral and written English. Experience with battery fabrication, electrochemical characterization, advanced materials analysis, electron spectroscopy, and polymer electrolytes is considered an advantage.
Deadline: 7 October 2026. Apply via the Uppsala University Varbi portal and reference UFV-PA 2026/2701.
