About this position

Stockholm University is advertising a PhD student position in Environmental Science within the Department of Environmental Science, with a strong focus on the Atmospheric Science Unit.

The project centers on aerosol–cloud interactions, aerosol process representation, and climate modelling in the Norwegian Earth System Model (NorESM). Research themes include analysis of long-term in-situ observational datasets, development of a new sectional aerosol scheme, and investigation of climate-scale impacts of aerosol–cloud interactions using model simulations.

Eligibility requires a relevant second-cycle degree or equivalent, plus specific natural science coursework: at least 45 second-cycle credits in a natural science subject with a 30-credit thesis project, and an additional 30 credits in other natural science subjects. Relevant backgrounds include biology, chemistry, earth sciences, physics, and meteorology.

Selection emphasizes relevant research knowledge, analytical and creative thinking, initiative, independence, teamwork, and strong English skills. Experience in programming and numerical modelling is a merit.

The position is a fixed-term doctoral studentship for four years of full-time doctoral education, with limited duties in teaching, research, and administration (up to 20%). The post is based in Stockholm, Sweden.

Contact person: Assistant Professor Sara Blichner ([email protected]).

Apply via Stockholm University’s recruitment system before 31 August 2026.
