About this position

Empa, the Swiss research institution in the ETH Domain, is recruiting a motivated PhD student for the Laboratory for Functional Polymers at Empa Dübendorf. The project is funded through an EU grant and is part of research on novel dielectric elastic materials.

The successful candidate will work on the synthesis of specially designed polymers and elastomers with improved dielectric and mechanical properties. In addition to synthesis, the project includes evaluation of dielectric, optical, mechanical, and electromechanical properties. This is an opportunity to join a strong team at the forefront of elastomeric materials development in a modern research environment with excellent infrastructure.

Applicants are expected to have a Master’s degree and a solid background in synthetic organic and polymer chemistry. The role is suited to someone who is motivated, comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment, and eager to learn new techniques and concepts. Strong spoken and written English skills are required.

The work will be carried out under the supervision of Prof. Dorina Opris, and the candidate will be registered as a PhD student at ETH Zurich in the Department of Materials. The planned project duration is four years.

To apply, candidates must submit their materials online via the official job portal, including a motivation letter, CV, certificates, diplomas, and contact details of two reference persons. Applications submitted by email or post will not be considered.
