About this position

Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, in Poznań is recruiting a PhD student for position no. 16/2026/ICHB/PSD within the Poznań Doctoral School of the Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The project is part of the INT2ACT MSCA Doctoral Networks 2024 programme, titled Innovative Nucleic Acids Technologies for Analysis, Detection and Treatment, and focuses on DC6: Development of single-molecule RNA sequencing and structural analysis methods for selected genomic regions.

The research sits at the intersection of chemistry, molecular biology, nucleic acid technologies, and translational biomedical research. It addresses current limitations in nucleic-acid analysis and therapeutics, including low detection sensitivity, limited sequencing capacity, and challenges in delivery. The project environment includes an international, interdisciplinary training network bringing together academic and industrial partners and aims to prepare doctoral candidates for research careers and roles beyond academia.

The successful PhD student will work under the supervision of Dr. hab. Barbara Uszczyńska-Ratajczak. Core tasks include planning and performing scientific experiments, preparing RNA sequencing libraries using long-read sequencing methods, cell culture and subcellular fraction isolation, writing scientific reports and manuscripts, and carrying out additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Funding is provided for 36 months, with a remuneration of approximately PLN 12,800 gross (about PLN 9,100 net) and social insurance coverage. The position is full-time and temporary. There is no possibility of extension.

Eligibility highlights include an MSc degree in chemistry, biotechnology, or a related field; basic knowledge of RNA sequencing; experience with human cell line culture; and strong English communication skills. Familiarity with Linux command line use and basic bioinformatics are desirable.
