Linköping University in Sweden is inviting applications for a PhD student position in Medical Science, with a research focus on molecular biology, biotechnology, and telomere biology. The successful candidate will join the Division of Molecular Medicine and Virology (MMV) at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV). The research project aims to understand the consequences of telomere deprotection in normal and malignant cells, investigating both cellular and molecular mechanisms, including DNA end processing, chromatin dynamics, and repair outcomes. Experimental work will involve cell culture, genetic manipulations, genomic rearrangement analysis, telomere assays, and RNA sequencing, as well as computational bioinformatics analysis.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field, or have completed at least 240 credits (with at least 60 in advanced courses), or possess equivalent knowledge. Candidates expecting to graduate before September 2026 are also eligible. Required skills include proficiency in English, strong communication and teamwork abilities, and a solid background in molecular techniques and biomedical research. Experience in genome stability, DNA damage response, telomere biology, mammalian cell culture, transient transfection, viral transduction, plasmid cloning, immunoblot, immunofluorescence, FISH, metaphase analysis, and sgRNA design is highly desirable.

The PhD position is fully salaried, with employment benefits and salary progression according to university policy.
