About this position

This opening is for a project team member working on the research project “Exploring nonequilibrium many-body phenomena in atom, photon and hybrid atom-photon systems”, funded by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the Polish Returns 2024 programme. The position is hosted by the Department of Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.

The research focuses on quantum technologies and quantum simulators for studying a broad range of physical systems. The successful candidate will work on theoretical models and analytical/numerical methods related to lattice models such as the Hubbard and Bose-Hubbard models, synthetic gauge fields, disorder, light-matter interaction, and relativistic phenomena that can be modeled in Bose-Einstein condensates, including the Unruh effect and analog gravity. The work is closely connected to modern experimental platforms such as optical lattices, traps, tweezers, and optical cavities.

Responsibilities include carrying out project tasks assigned by the principal investigator, analyzing simulation results, contributing to scientific articles, and actively participating in conferences and workshops.

Eligibility highlights include current PhD student status at a doctoral school throughout the project, a strong theoretical physics and quantum physics background, and good English. Programming experience with Python, Julia, or C++ is an advantage. Applicants should also be able to provide a Master’s degree diploma or proof of planned defense, plus a certificate confirming PhD student status.

The position is a temporary, part-time appointment (30 hours per week) for 12 months, with a possible extension. Indicative remuneration is PLN 6,500–8,000 gross depending on insurance status.
