About this position
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position in bio-fuel production using experiments and AI-assisted analysis. The successful candidate will join the Division of Chemical Engineering within the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, contributing to innovative research aimed at increasing Swedish production of sustainable biofuels. The project focuses on efficiently combining and refining various bio-liquids, including pyrolysis oil derived from forest and agricultural residues, through catalytic upgrading and advanced data analysis techniques.
The research is interdisciplinary, integrating catalysis, reactor experiments, AI-assisted data analysis, and comprehensive system and energy analyses. Collaboration with another postdoctoral researcher specializing in energy analyses is expected. The division is renowned for its expertise in chemical engineering, combining experimental research with modelling, and maintains strong industry partnerships across sectors such as forestry, pharmaceuticals, refineries, chemicals, automotive, and equipment manufacturing.
Key responsibilities include synthesizing and characterizing catalysts, performing high-pressure hydrodeoxygenation experiments, analyzing products, and applying AI-assisted data analysis to support experimental work. The postdoc will also supervise master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent. The position is highly meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent field, with strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Experience in catalysis and reactor experiments is required. Candidates with a recent doctoral degree (within the last three years), experience in AI/machine learning for data analysis, and simulation expertise are strongly preferred. Physical presence in Sweden is required throughout the employment, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
The position is a full-time, temporary employment for two years, offering full employee benefits at Chalmers University of Technology. Chalmers provides a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, with generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, and offers Swedish language courses for international staff.
