About this position

The Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Warsaw is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a project titled “Spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in polar fluid – heliconical ferroelectric nematic materials”, funded by NCN and led by Professor Ewa Górecka. The position is based in the Laboratory of Soft Matter and focuses on the physical chemistry of liquid-crystalline materials, especially ferroelectric nematic systems, polar fluids, and chiral symmetry breaking.

The successful candidate will carry out scientific research, including characterization of liquid-crystalline materials and numerical simulations of liquid-crystal phases. The role also includes maintaining scientific documentation, preparing manuscripts, and guiding or supervising students involved in the project. This is a full-time temporary appointment at the University of Warsaw, with an intended start date of 1 March 2027 for 18 months, with the possibility of extension.

Funding information provided in the announcement states a remuneration of 186,000 PLN per year gross plus employer contributions. The post is open to candidates with a PhD in chemistry or a related field by the first day of work at the latest, and applicants should have strong English, experience in physicochemical studies of soft matter, numerical modelling of soft-matter structure and properties, teamwork skills, and scientific achievements. The recruitment also notes compliance with Polish higher education law requirements.

Applications should be submitted by email to [email protected] no later than 30 November 2026. Required documents include a CV, list of publications, copy of PhD diploma (or MSc diploma if the PhD is not yet obtained at recruitment), and contact details of two referees. The university indicates that only selected candidates may be invited to interview, with results communicated by email by 6 January 2027.

This opportunity is suitable for researchers interested in soft matter, liquid crystals, numerical simulation, and the physical chemistry of advanced functional materials at a leading chemical research center in Poland.

What's required

Applicants must hold a PhD in chemistry or related sciences by the first day of work at the latest. The post requires very good English, experience in physicochemical studies of soft matter, experience in numerical modelling of soft matter structure and properties, teamwork skills, and scientific achievements. The candidate must also meet the requirements of Article 113 of the Polish Law on Higher Education and Science. A PhD degree is required; if the candidate has not yet obtained a PhD at recruitment, an MSc diploma is mentioned in the document, but the position is clearly advertised as a postdoctoral role.

How to apply

Prepare a CV, list of publications, copy of your PhD diploma (or MSc diploma if applicable at recruitment), and contact details for two referees. Send the documents by email to [email protected] with the subject line “Post-doc 2026, candidate’s surname”.
