About this position
Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher / Junior Research Group Leader position in Theoretical Description of Light-Driven Catalysis in Soft Matter at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry.
The role is embedded in the interdisciplinary collaborative research centre TRR 234 “CataLight”, which investigates light-driven catalytic processes in soft matter environments using experimental, analytical, and theoretical approaches. The successful candidate will work at the interface of theoretical chemistry, macromolecular chemistry, and materials science, with a focus on multiscale modelling, structure-dynamics-function relationships, and catalytically active building blocks in dynamic soft matter systems.
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) starting in January 2027 for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of extension until the end of the third funding period of TRR 234 (30.06.2030). The post includes opportunities to build an independent research profile, supervise and mentor doctoral researchers and graduate students, participate in teaching at Master level, and help acquire and manage external funding.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in theoretical chemistry, theoretical material science, or a related field; experience in multiscale modelling of soft matter, hybrid materials, or related areas; excellent English and German skills; and an independent, interdisciplinary working style. The position is remunerated according to TV-L salary scale 13, with a special annual payment and standard public-sector benefits.
Application deadline: 2026-10-30. Apply via the university’s online form.
