About this position
LISER and the LIS Cross-National Data Center (LIS) in Luxembourg are recruiting a Research Associate (Post-doc) in Economics, Sociology or Political Sciences for the joint (LIS)2ER initiative.
The project aims to build a new data-driven knowledge base on policies that reduce inequalities and to deepen understanding of what works in lowering inequality and poverty. The research draws on nearly 40 years of household data from middle-income and rich countries, including the LIS income database, the LIS wealth database, and the Luxembourg Consumption Study (LCS) under development.
Research themes include inequality in consumption, income and wealth, taxation (progressivity, income pooling, deductibility), unemployment, social assistance and poverty, pensions, and family benefits. The candidate is expected to develop an independent research agenda, potentially on the future of social protection in the context of technological transformation, population change, or climate change.
This is a 3-year fixed-term, full-time position based in Belval, Luxembourg, with work across both LISER and LIS premises. The role includes innovative research, co-organizing events, hosting visitors, disseminating results through publications and reports, contributing to research proposals, and attending conferences and workshops.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in Economics, Sociology, Political Sciences, or a related discipline; strong quantitative research experience; knowledge of cross-country policy differences; fluency in English. Additional languages are an asset.
Funding and benefits: competitive remuneration under the Collective Labour Agreement, including half of a 13th month salary and meal vouchers, plus teleworking flexibility, training, seminars, conference support, and annual leave.
Application deadline: 15 September 2026 at midnight CET.
How to apply: submit your application in English via the LISER jobs portal with a CV, a 2-page research idea note aligned with the (LIS)2ER framework, 1–2 representative papers, a copy of your PhD diploma, and two reference letters. Reference letters can be uploaded or sent separately to [email protected].
