About this position
Keio University Global Research Institute is recruiting a postdoctoral-equivalent researcher for its 2040 Independent Self-Respect Project in Tokyo, Japan. The project is a joint research initiative with SportsX Co., Ltd. titled Research on the Construction of Regional Value Evaluation Indicators in a Mature Society. The work is primarily online, and side-job participation is welcome for applicants who already hold primary positions elsewhere.
The research focuses on building new evaluation concepts for a declining and super-aging society, including the academic framework of a mature society and a maturity index. The successful candidate will contribute to literature and policy review, conceptual clarification, indicator design, and verification planning, with outputs including reports and academic papers. The project also aims to develop a regional value evaluation framework originating in Fukushima and share it domestically and internationally as a model for regional revitalization.
Relevant study areas include sociology, economics (public economics, environmental economics), policy science, regional studies, and statistics. Applicants should be able to independently conduct literature reviews, data analysis, and academic writing. A doctoral degree is required, or the degree must be expected by the appointment date.
Funding is employment-based rather than a scholarship: the hourly wage is 2,500–3,000 yen, with an estimated monthly salary of about 75,000–90,000 yen for part-time work or about 290,000 yen for full-time work. Social insurance and commuting expenses are provided according to university rules and applicable law.
The position is based at Keio University in Tokyo, with a start date of April 1, 2027. Applications are accepted from 2026-10-20 to 2026-11-30, but the search may close early once a suitable candidate is found. Apply with the required CV, publication list, sample publications, statement of purpose, and referee contact details via the JREC-IN portal or by email.
