About this position

The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France is offering a post-doctoral fellowship in the X-Ray Diffraction & Scattering group on beamline ID15A. The ESRF is an international research centre and one of the world’s leading synchrotron facilities, supporting advanced research across many disciplines. This position is centered on beamline science and experimental research in high-energy X-ray diffraction and total scattering, with a particular emphasis on materials chemistry.

ID15A focuses on battery science, catalysis, glasses, and other disordered systems. The beamline is optimized for operando and in situ experiments in the 40–100 keV range, providing a strong environment for fast-scanning multidimensional diffraction studies and innovative experiments using state-of-the-art instrumentation. The successful candidate will develop an independent research programme, support beamline users, collaborate closely with beamline staff, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations.

Applicants must hold a PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry, or a closely related field, awarded less than three years ago. Experience in X-ray diffraction and scattering, along with strong experimental data analysis skills and good communication abilities, is required. English proficiency is necessary for work at the ESRF. Additional strengths such as scientific programming skills, especially Python, and experience with high-energy X-ray diffraction instrumentation are preferred.

The post is offered as an 18-month contract, renewable for a further 6 to 18 months. Funding details
