About this position

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is hiring a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Microbiology and Immunology in the laboratory of Dr. Jason A. Carlyon at the MCV Main Campus in Richmond, Virginia, United States.

The project is NIH-funded and focuses on the arthropod vector-transmitted obligate intracellular bacterial pathogen Anaplasma phagocytophilum. Research topics include host-pathogen interactions, membrane trafficking pathways, lipid signaling, exosome biogenesis, bacterial entry, effector delivery, cytoskeletal rearrangement, and in vivo protection/pathogenesis studies using mouse models.

Applicants should have a PhD or MD/PhD and experience working with microbial pathogens. Strong preparation in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, bacterial genetics, and/or yeast genetics is expected. Preferred experience includes cultivating intracellular bacteria in tissue culture, infection assays, membrane trafficking, mouse models, and yeast-based systems. The role also involves lab maintenance, record keeping, manuscript and grant writing, and conference presentations.

This is a full-time, fully onsite postdoctoral position with a salary of $63,480-$64,380 commensurate with experience per the NIH postdoc pay scale, plus VCU benefits. Apply through the VCU Jobs portal using the online application form.
