About this position

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is advertising post-doctoral positions in battery research within the Physical Science and Engineering Division, in the area of Materials Science and Engineering. These positions are aimed at talented postdoctoral researchers with expertise in advanced battery technologies and strong translational and commercialization potential.

The project spans three parallel research directions: extreme-temperature batteries, lithium- and/or sodium-based batteries, and solid-state batteries. The work is highly experimental and will involve designing and executing research plans to develop and optimize next-generation battery materials, electrolytes, and full cells. Responsibilities include advanced electrochemical testing and diagnostics such as galvanostatic cycling, rate capability, EIS, CV, and GITT/PITT as needed, along with careful interpretation of failure mechanisms. The role also includes materials and interfacial characterization using tools such as XRD, SEM/TEM, XPS, Raman/FTIR, and DSC/TGA, and relating structure, properties, and performance.

In addition to laboratory research, the postdoc will help develop robust and reproducible cell-fabrication protocols, especially for pouch cells where relevant, as well as quality control and data management procedures. The position involves preparing technical reports, manuscripts, conference presentations, proposal materials, and project documentation, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, mentoring students, and maintaining strong lab safety and documentation standards.

The compensation package is attractive and includes a competitive tax-free salary, free on-campus housing, comprehensive health insurance, 22 days of annual vacation, and additional benefits. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, and should bring a strong battery research background, practical electrochemistry skills, experience with battery interfacial chemistry, and a publication record in top-tier peer-reviewed journals.

Applications must be submitted through PlutoEdu. The posting explicitly asks applicants not to send CVs to the professor by email or LinkedIn, and notes that only selected candidates will be contacted. No application deadline is specified in the post.
