About this position

Post-doctoral researcher in computer science at Poznań University of Life Sciences, Poland.

This full-time postdoctoral position is part of the OPUS-30 project “Brain development in genus Homo over the last two million years”, funded by the National Science Centre in Poland. The work is highly interdisciplinary and sits at the interface of computer science, MRI segmentation, medical image analysis, human brain mapping, evolutionary morphology, paleoneurology, virtual anthropology, computational neuroscience, and neuroimaging.

The successful candidate will work with principal investigator Anna Maria Kubicka and contribute to the development and improvement of skull segmentation in MRI datasets already collected from children and adults. The role involves applying computational and quantitative methods to modern human data and, later, early hominins, including early Homo, in order to investigate evolutionary changes in human brain development.

The project aims to improve understanding of the mechanisms shaping neurocranial development and the coordination between vascular growth, brain maturation, and cranial bone formation. It also includes collaboration with researchers from France (Musée de l'Homme, Paris) and Spain (Valladolid University).

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in computer science, machine learning, computational neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, or a related discipline by the start date. Strong experience with neuroimaging data is expected, especially in MRI segmentation, medical image processing, Python/Matlab programming, human brain mapping, machine learning, and pipeline optimization. The post also values independence, initiative, a strong publication record for career stage, and very good English.

Funding and terms: the appointment lasts 18 months with an option to extend. The advertised salary is 15,000 PLN per month before taxes.

Application deadline: 21 October 2026 at 23:00 (Europe/Warsaw). Applicants must email a cover letter, CV, two co-authored research articles, and three references to [email protected].
