About this position
INRAE is advertising a post-doctoral researcher position in likelihood-free statistical inference for epidemiological models, based in France (Nantes or Jouy-en-Josas).
The project focuses on improving the calibration of mechanistic dynamic models for infectious disease spread using complex, incomplete, and heterogeneous data sources such as epidemiological, serological, and genomic data. The case study is bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV), with an emphasis on transmission reconstruction and data integration.
Research tasks include developing and evaluating summary statistics for heterogeneous data integration, implementing and comparing likelihood-free methods such as ABC-SMC, ABC-RF, Wasserstein-ABC, and NPE, and assessing the data quantity and quality needed for reliable calibration. The postdoc will also study how surveillance design choices affect inference performance and build a multi-strain mechanistic model for BVDV transmission in France.
This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates with strengths in statistics, mathematics, computer science, biology, public health, or veterinary science, particularly those interested in computational inference, epidemiological modeling, and infectious disease surveillance.
Deadline: 2026-08-31.
How to apply: Use the official INRAE job link and submit your application through the recruitment portal. Review the full vacancy page for complete eligibility and application instructions.
