About this position
Post-doctoral researcher position in bioinformatics, metagenomics, metabolomics and cancer immunotherapy at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań, Poland.
The Laboratory of Bioinformatics is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a 36-month, full-time position within the National Science Centre (NCN) project “Prediction of response to immunotherapy in melanoma using metabolic signatures of the gut mycobiome” (project no. 2025/59/D/NZ2/00484). The work is led by Principal Investigator dr hab. Natalia Szóstak.
The project aims to develop novel, interpretable predictive models for response to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in patients with advanced melanoma. The research focuses on the functional activity of the gut fungi (mycobiota) and their metabolites, moving beyond taxonomic microbiome descriptions to identify biologically meaningful metabolic pathways and non-invasive biomarkers associated with treatment efficacy.
The postdoc will work with metagenomic, metabolomic, immunophenotyping, and clinical datasets and will integrate these data using bioinformatics, machine learning, and statistical modeling approaches. The project has a strong translational and precision oncology dimension, combining cancer immunotherapy, microbiome science, and computational analysis.
Key duties include planning and conducting multi-omics analyses, interpreting results, preparing reports and scientific publications, presenting findings at seminars and conferences, and supporting the supervision of students and PhD students.
Eligibility requirements include a PhD (or equivalent) in biological sciences, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field; experience with multi-omics data integration; strong machine learning/statistical modeling skills; proficiency in Python and/or R and command-line bioinformatics tools; and very good English. Experience with HPC environments and systems such as Slurm is considered an advantage. NCN mobility and career-stage eligibility rules also apply, including a limit on the time since the doctoral degree was obtained.
The expected salary is approximately PLN 14,250 gross. The position is funded by the NCN project and is available immediately depending on recruitment results. Applications must be submitted via the eRecruiter portal by 20 August 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Brussels).
