About this position

Post-doctoral researcher position at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan, Poland, within the Laboratory of Bioinformatics.

The project is titled Prediction of response to immunotherapy in melanoma using metabolic signatures of the gut mycobiome. It aims to develop novel, interpretable predictive models for response to immunotherapy in patients with advanced melanoma, drawing on the functional activity of gut fungi (mycobiota) and their metabolites. The work combines metagenomic, metabolomic, immunophenotyping, and clinical data to identify metabolic pathways and biomarkers associated with anti-PD-1 treatment response.

The role is situated in a biomedical bioinformatics environment and is led by Principal Investigator dr hab. Natalia Szóstak. The project emphasizes multi-omics integration, machine learning, and biologically interpretable modelling to move from descriptive microbiome analysis toward a mechanistic understanding of gut mycobiota in anti-tumour immunity. The research is conducted under NCN project 2025/59/D/NZ2/00484, funded by the National Science Centre.

Eligibility and profile: applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in biological sciences, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related discipline. Strong experience in multi-omics analysis is required, especially metagenomics and metabolomics, together with a solid background in machine learning and statistical modelling. Proficiency in Python and/or R and command-line bioinformatics tools is expected; HPC and Slurm experience is an advantage. Very good English, independence, good organisational skills, and ability to work in a team are also requested. NCN eligibility rules apply, including the maximum time since PhD award and additional constraints related to doctorate location or postdoctoral internship history.

Funding and conditions: the expected salary is approximately PLN 14,250 gross. The appointment is full-time, temporary, and offered for 32 months with a possible extension to 36 months.

Application: apply via the eRecruiter portal using the listed application link. Required documents include an application to the Director of IBCH PAN with contact details of previous scientific supervisors or referees, a copy of the doctoral diploma, and a scientific CV with publications and research/project experience. Deadline: 2 November 2026, 23:59 (Europe/Brussels).
