About this position

Post-doctoral Scientist in Ecosystem Database Development & Human Dimensions at The Ohio State University (Aquatic Ecology Laboratory, Columbus, Ohio).

This postdoc supports a Great Lakes Fishery Commission project focused on building a novel data-sharing platform for ecosystem-based fisheries management in the Great Lakes Basin. The role combines human dimensions research with data science, computer science, information systems, and environmental science/ecology. The successful candidate will conduct structured and semi-structured interviews, analyze survey data, organize workshops with fishery managers, academic and agency researchers, and fishing groups, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of scientists and computer/data engineers.

The project aims to prototype an online interface that lets end-users query independent Great Lakes databases and download data at the appropriate spatial and temporal resolution. The postdoc will also write manuscripts, help develop scientific proposals, give presentations, and contribute to annual progress reports for the sponsor.

Eligibility highlights: PhD required in social science, data science, computer science, information systems, environmental science, ecology, or a related field; demonstrated independent human dimensions research with peer-reviewed publications; strong communication skills and willingness to engage Great Lakes stakeholders. Programming/database platform experience is helpful but not required.

Funding: Supported for at least one year with possible extension; salary $62,232–$70,000/year plus benefits.

Location: Working on location in Columbus is preferred.

How to apply: Submit one PDF by email to [email protected] including a cover letter, CV, and three references. Use the subject line “Data-sharing Platform Post-doc” plus your last name. Review begins immediately and continues until a suitable candidate is found.
