About this position

The Species Interactions & Global Change Research Group at the University of Connecticut is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of biological invasions, ecology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science.

The postdoc will develop and apply AI approaches to improve prediction of biological invasions across species, ecosystems, and geographic regions. The research emphasizes probabilistic and interpretable machine-learning models, including uncertainty quantification, model calibration, transferability, and reproducible computational workflows for ecological forecasting and invasion-risk assessment.

The position is mentored by Dr. Julissa Rojas-Sandoval and offers opportunities for intellectual independence, new research directions, high-impact publications, international collaborations, and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate researchers.

Eligibility: applicants must have a Ph.D. in Ecology, Environmental Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Geography, or a closely related field completed by the start date. Required experience includes analysis of ecological, biodiversity, or environmental datasets, strong quantitative/computational skills, independent research, peer-reviewed publications, and strong communication and collaboration skills. Preferred experience includes Python and/or R, reproducible workflows, machine learning or advanced statistical modeling, probabilistic ML, interpretable AI, uncertainty quantification, model calibration, transfer learning, domain adaptation, causal inference, ensemble modeling, spatial analysis, GIS, large datasets, version control, and high-performance/cloud computing.

Funding: full-time 12-month appointment with salary and benefits according to University guidelines and the applicable collective bargaining agreement; renewable annually for up to 2 years depending on performance and funding.

Location: Storrs Mansfield, Connecticut, United States.

Application: apply online for Search #499868 and upload a resume, cover letter, and contact information for three professional references. Review of applications begins on 2026-11-15 and continues until the position is filled.
