About this position

KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position focused on adaptive separation in cellulose-based, macroporous monoliths. This research aims to address key challenges in biopharma separation, particularly for large particles such as lipid nanoparticles. The successful candidate will design and develop materials with and without electrochemical control over pore-wall properties, integrate these materials into chromatographic columns, and evaluate their performance using both model systems and relevant particle samples.

The postdoc will work closely with Assistant Professor Tobias Benselfelt, Professor Mahiar Hamedi, and a multidisciplinary team specializing in tunable membranes and adaptive separation using cellulose fibrils and fibres. The group’s research spans fundamental physics and chemistry to applied electronics, providing a dynamic and collaborative environment. The project offers opportunities for both fundamental and applied research, with potential for commercialisation.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) completed by the time of employment. Proficiency in English and strong communication skills are required. Preferred qualifications include backgrounds in physical chemistry, materials science, or biotechnology, as well as experience with membrane or chromatographic separation technologies and electrochemistry. The doctoral degree should have been obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline. Candidates should demonstrate curiosity, motivation, independence, and strong research expertise, as well as a collaborative and proactive approach. Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, especially gender equality, is valued.

The position is full-time, temporary (up to two years), and based in Stockholm, Sweden. KTH offers attractive benefits, good working conditions, and a creative, international research environment. The application deadline is January 15, 2026. For further information, contact Assistant Professor Tobias Benselfelt at [email protected].

To apply, submit your application via the KTH recruitment system, including a CV, diplomas and grades (with translations if necessary), a one-page motivation statement, and two papers demonstrating your qualifications. Ensure your application is complete and submitted by the deadline.
