About this position

Postdoc opportunity at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in AI-driven design and modelling of bio-based adhesives.

This position is based in the Department of Forest Bioeconomy and Technology and is part of the BioGlue-Centre, a Vinnova Competence Centre focused on sustainable industry and digital transformation. The project combines polymer science, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, and machine learning to build predictive frameworks for next-generation sustainable adhesives.

The research aims to reduce dependence on fossil-based materials by developing high-performance bio-adhesive systems for furniture, construction, and packaging. The work includes experimental formulation, molecular-level characterization, structured formulation libraries, mapping of key performance indicators, data-driven optimization, and validation on industrially relevant substrates. You will collaborate with academic and industrial partners and contribute to a transferable predictive toolbox for sustainable adhesive design.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD obtained within the last three years in materials science, polymer science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related field; strong expertise in polymer formulation and structure-property relationships; experience with advanced material characterization; strong interest in data-driven research; and good English communication skills. Experience with modelling, data analysis, or machine learning is a strong merit.

Employment details: temporary employment for 24 months, full-time, with possible extension. The position is located in Uppsala, Sweden. The application deadline is 16 August 2026.

How to apply: submit your application through the SLU/ReachMee online portal before the deadline. Use the application link on the vacancy page and follow the instructions in the portal. For questions, contact Professor Stergios Adamopoulos or Head of Department Carola Häggström.
