About this position
We’re hiring a postdoc in antimicrobial resistance, bacterial genomics, and infectious-disease modelling at the University of Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland.
This is a joint position between Thomas Van Boeckel (One Health Institute) and Adrian Egli (Institute of Medical Microbiology). The project has two connected parts: (1) analysis of large international genomic and AMR databases to detect possible pre-existing resistance to a newly developed class of thanatin-derived antibiotics targeting multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, including comparisons across countries and regions and modelling of international spread using epidemiological and mobility data; and (2) a One Health AMR dataset spanning water, humans, and animals, with development of a transmission model between compartments.
The ideal candidate is quantitatively minded and has a strong interest in AMR, metapopulation modelling, infectious-disease modelling, and bacterial genomics. The post is especially relevant for researchers interested in global health, epidemiology, transmission dynamics, and One Health approaches.
The position is approximately 18 months and is supported by the UZH Foundation, with complementary funding from a Novo Nordisk-funded project on One Health transmission of AMR in Indonesia.
To apply, contact Thomas Van Boeckel or Adrian Egli by email with your CV and a brief description of your research interests and experience. Applications are open until the end of November 2026.
