About this position

A postdoctoral position is available at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), Belgium, in the area of quantum communication and Rydberg physics with ultracold calcium gases.

The project focuses on the use of ultracold Ca Rydberg atoms for quantum communication, leveraging the second valence electron of calcium as part of the Interreg program Secuweb. The successful candidate will contribute to the theoretical design and/or final build phase of the experiment, with the goal of establishing a quantum repeater architecture and characterizing relevant atomic states and dynamics.

The research group also works on directly cooling Ca Rydberg atoms with laser light for the first time and on producing exotic states of correlated cold matter. The position sits within the NAPS division at UCLouvain, in Louvain-la-Neuve, near Brussels. The working language is English, and the group is described as highly international and collaborative.

This is a full-time temporary postdoctoral appointment, initially for one year and renewable. The advertised net monthly salary is approximately €3000 depending on seniority and family situation. Candidates are encouraged to seek their own fellowship if possible.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in experimental or theoretical atomic and molecular physics or an equivalent field, strong background in Rydberg atoms and molecules, laser cooling and trapping, lasers, quantum optics for quantum communication, or cavity QED, plus publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
