About this position
PhD Student – Research Assistant in Neutral Atoms Applications (f/m/x) at the Center for Quantum-Enabled Computing (C4QEC), Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland.
This position is part of a newly established research group focused on neutral atoms and their applications in quantum technologies. The successful candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment on topics such as quantum control, quantum simulation, quantum optics, quantum information, many-body dynamics, hybrid quantum systems, and quantum sensing. The project emphasizes both analytical and numerical approaches, with research directions connected to programmable quantum systems, optical tweezers, Rydberg arrays, state preparation, robust control, and protocol design under realistic experimental constraints.
The position is based in Warsaw and is offered as a hybrid role. It is a full-time employment contract (1 FTE) with a gross salary of 9,700 PLN/month, including full social security and health insurance. The appointment is available as soon as possible and runs until the end of 2029, with a possibility of extension to complete the PhD thesis subject to satisfactory performance. Up to two positions are available.
The group is led by Dr. Piotr T. Grochowski. C4QEC is part of the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a research institute active in physics and quantum information, with strong international visibility and a broad seminar and conference culture. The position is embedded in a project funded through the International Research Agendas programme and co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Smart Economy 2021–2027 (FENG).
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in physics or mathematics; if the degree is not yet awarded, a supervisor’s statement confirming the planned defense date is required. Strong English, solid knowledge of quantum physics, and good scientific programming skills are expected. Background in quantum optics, atomic physics, quantum information, many-body physics, or numerical modelling is considered an advantage.
Applications must be submitted by 8 November 2026. Required documents include a CV, bachelor’s and master’s transcripts, at least one recommendation letter sent directly by the referee, a short motivation letter, a copy of the Master’s diploma or supervisor statement if pending, and a signed GDPR/data privacy statement. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, either at the institute or online.
