About this position
DTU Physics and DTU Construct are recruiting a two-year postdoc in dark-field X-ray microscopy (DFXM) focused on dislocation structures, plastic deformation in metals, and the evolution of dislocation cells and boundaries in bulk aluminium.
The project combines in situ synchrotron experiments with Python-based data processing and quantitative three-dimensional microstructure analysis. You will study how dislocation structures form, refine, and organize spatially, and relate these observations to theoretical and computational models of metal plasticity.
Research environment: an international, highly multidisciplinary team of around 8 PhDs and postdocs, with collaboration between DTU Physics and DTU Construct. The group works on synchrotron-based imaging methods including 3-Dimensional X-Ray Microscopy and Dark-Field X-ray Microscopy.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD degree or equivalent is required. Strong experience with DFXM or related diffraction-based methods such as 3DXRD or DCT, synchrotron beamtime proposals, dislocation structures in metals, Python for scientific computing, and quantitative characterization of 3D microstructures is expected. Strong scientific writing and publication record are also requested.
Funding/employment: salaried postdoctoral appointment under the Danish collective agreement; salary supplements may be negotiated. The post is based in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
Application deadline: 5 November 2026 (23:59 Danish time). Apply online and submit one PDF containing the cover letter, CV, academic diplomas (MSc/PhD in English), and publication list.

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent. Strong understanding of dark-field X-ray microscopy (DFXM) and related diffraction-based characterization methods such as 3DXRD or DCT is required, along with experience planning and conducting synchrotron experiments and writing beamtime proposals. Candidates should know dislocation structures and their evolution in metals, be proficient in Python for scientific computing on large datasets, have experience developing methods for quantitative characterization of three-dimensional microstructures, and demonstrate strong scientific writing skills through publications.
How to apply
Submit the complete online application through the Apply now link by the deadline. Upload one PDF in English containing the cover letter, CV, academic diplomas (MSc/PhD), and list of publications.
