About this position

DTU Electro is advertising a fully funded PhD scholarship in Silicon Optomechanics and Light-Matter Interaction at the Deep Nanoscale within the QUEST Doctoral Network (Quantum Electrodynamics with Silicon Nanotechnology).

The project sits at the intersection of physics, electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, and computer science. The successful candidate will join the Photonic Nanotechnology group at Technical University of Denmark (DTU Electro) and work on theoretical modelling of dissipative nanomechanical resonators, silicon nano-optomechanics, and their interaction with optical and phononic environments. The role includes numerical multiphysics simulations, design-oriented modelling, and interpretation of experiments in close collaboration with nanofabrication and optical-experiment colleagues.

The doctoral network brings together European universities, research institutes, and companies, and includes training schools, workshops, and regular meetings with other doctoral candidates. The PhD project is based at DTU Electro in Denmark, with secondments of at least three months at the University of Barcelona and the Max Planck Institute in Göttingen.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent; strong backgrounds in photonics, quantum optics, laser physics, and numerical techniques are preferred. The post specifically seeks candidates with excellent academic records, strong motivation, and a top GPA. MSCA mobility rules apply: applicants must not have lived or carried out their main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment.

Funding: the position is fully funded under Marie Skłodowska-Curie rules, with mobility and family allowances where applicable. The salary is stated as DKK 30264.08 base salary plus DKK 1580.90 PhD supplement, and pension is added by DTU. The appointment lasts 3 years.

How to apply: submit the online application through the DTU portal before 2026-11-01. Upload one PDF in English containing a cover letter, CV, and grade transcripts plus BSc/MSc diploma with grading scale description. Contact Senior Researcher Philip Trøst Kristensen at [email protected] for further information.
