About this position
DTU Electro is advertising a Postdoc in Data-Driven Design of Chalcogenide Thin Films for Advanced Photovoltaics in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. The project sits at the intersection of physics, materials science, electrical engineering, chemistry, and computer science, with a strong focus on thin-film photovoltaics, solar cells, chalcogenide thin films, and AI-guided experimental optimization.
The Thin-Film Photovoltaics Group at DTU Electro is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop and optimize antimony-based chalcogenide thin films, including Sb₂S₃ and Sb₂(S,Se)₃. The work combines controlled hydrothermal synthesis, thin-film processing, defect engineering, and solar-cell fabrication/characterization. A key part of the project is an interdisciplinary collaboration with DTU Compute to build a closed-loop workflow where experimental results inform machine learning models that propose the next synthesis experiments.
Responsibilities include optimizing precursor chemistry, additives, passivation, and post-deposition treatments; studying relationships between synthesis conditions, crystal structure, composition, defect formation, bandgap tuning, and optoelectronic properties; fabricating and characterizing thin-film solar cells; and contributing structured datasets for machine-learning-driven optimization. The postdoc will also participate in teaching activities and supervise/contribute to PhD and MSc/BSc student projects.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent and have a strong background in a relevant technical or scientific field. Hands-on experience in solar-cell fabrication, especially with halide perovskites or inorganic thin-film solar cells, is essential. Experience with hydrothermal thin-film synthesis or device characterization is an advantage.
Funding is provided by a Villum Synergy grant. The appointment is for 2 years, with salary and terms according to the Danish collective agreement and possible negotiated supplements. The position starts on 1 January 2027.
Application deadline: 15 November 2026. Apply online via the job portal and submit one PDF in English containing the cover letter, CV, academic diplomas, publication list, relevant publications, and a motivation letter.
