Postdoc opportunity in experimental aerosol physics at the University of Vienna
The Aerosol Physics and Environmental Physics Group in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Vienna is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the setup and operation of the upcoming ACTRIS National Facility for aerosol in-situ measurements. The position is centered on experimental aerosol physics, atmospheric sciences, aerosol chemistry, meteorology, environmental physics, and the optical properties of aerosol particles in urban background environments.
The successful candidate will work with laboratory, ground-based, and field measurements, including the setup, characterization, maintenance, and independent operation of instruments such as an Aethalometer, Nephelometer, and Aerodynamic Particle Sizer. The role also includes calibration systems, data processing and interpretation, measurement campaigns, teaching, student supervision, and contributions to project applications and third-party funding.
Eligibility highlights: completed PhD in physics or a closely related aerosol/atmospheric field; strong experimental and field/lab experience; experience with in-situ aerosol instrumentation; strong data analysis skills; very good programming ability in Python and/or Igor; peer-reviewed publications; excellent English. German is desirable but not required. A driver’s license is necessary, and willingness to travel is expected.
Employment details: postdoc position at the University of Vienna, limited until 2027-07-06, with a basic salary of EUR 5,014.30 gross (40 hours/14 times a year), adjusted for recognized experience. The application deadline is 2026-08-28.
