About this position
Postdoctoral opportunity in Atmospheric Transport Modelling at the University of Vienna, within the research group Atmospheric Transport Processes led by Prof. Andreas Stohl. The team develops and applies the FLEXPART Lagrangian transport model and studies atmospheric transport across a wide range of topics, including greenhouse gases, pollutants, water vapour, heat, radionuclides, and inverse modelling.
The successful candidate will contribute to the maintenance and further development of FLEXPART and pursue research topics within the group’s interests or propose their own ideas. Possible directions include theoretical and numerical improvements of FLEXPART, new application fields, analysis of ice core data, transport climatologies, Lagrangian re-analyses, and transport of heat, water, greenhouse gases, radionuclides, or air pollutants.
Requirements: completed PhD/doctoral degree in atmospheric sciences (e.g. meteorology, climatology) or a related field; strong programming skills; experience with data analysis and interpretation grounded in theoretical/physical understanding; good teamwork; very good English. Experience with Lagrangian transport models and advanced programming in Python and/or Fortran are advantageous.
Funding and conditions: university-funded postdoc position, gross salary from EUR 5,014.30 (14x/year), initial contract for 3 years with possible extension up to 6 years. Flexible working hours and partial work-from-home within Austria may be possible by agreement.
