About this position
Postdoc opportunity at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Faculty of Aerospace Engineering in experimental study of ice formation processes for contrails.
This position focuses on aviation climate impacts, especially contrails and their uncertain formation pathways. The successful candidate will design an experimental setup to investigate ice nucleation pathways related to different engine exhaust conditions and particle types. The collected data will help validate microphysics models for ice nucleation and improve understanding of contrail formation mechanisms.
Research themes / keywords: contrails, ice nucleation, ice formation, aerospace engineering, atmospheric sciences, applied physics, experimental methods, microphysics modelling, aviation emissions, climate impact.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD degree in a relevant subject (aerospace engineering, aeronautical engineering, atmospheric sciences, or applied physics), excellent laboratory experience, strong mathematical and analytical skills, programming skills such as Python, excellent English, interdisciplinary mindset, independent learning ability, teamwork, and openness to discussion and constructive criticism. Prior scientific research experience is a plus.
Funding and employment: 2-year temporary postdoc contract, 36–40 hours per week, salary range €3706–€5760, with Dutch university employment benefits including pension, flexible working, training opportunities, leave hours, and partially paid parental leave.
