About this position
This postdoctoral position at Chalmers University of Technology offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in far-infrared semiconductor electronics. The role is based in the Division of Terahertz and Millimetre Wave, Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, renowned for advancing quantum technology, nanoscience, photonics, and future electronic systems. The department fosters a vibrant, international research environment with direct access to world-class nanofabrication facilities and encourages cross-disciplinary collaborations with academia, industry, and society.
The research project, funded by the ERC, focuses on developing semiconductor terahertz electronics for far-infrared space instruments. The primary aim is to achieve high receiver sensitivity and stability with significantly lower power consumption in the 2-5 THz frequency range, setting new standards for FIR/THz heterodyne receiver solutions. The long-term vision is to enable future atmospheric science missions that require advanced far-infrared technology.
As a postdoc, you will work on demonstrating semiconductor-based antenna-integrated receivers for the far-infrared region. Responsibilities include supervising master’s and/or PhD students, engaging in teaching at undergraduate or master’s level, and contributing to the academic community. The position is designed to be meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, completed by the time of employment decision. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential. Experience in terahertz technology, including experimental characterisation techniques, is mandatory. Additional qualifications that will strengthen your application include a doctoral degree obtained within the last three years, experience in antenna theory and design, and expertise in semiconductor device technology. Candidates should have some teaching experience and demonstrate strong research potential. Physical presence in Sweden is required throughout the employment, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, with generous employee benefits including parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, and offers Swedish language courses for international staff.
To apply, submit your application via the online form by May 27, 2026. Attach your CV, publication list, teaching experience, and a personal letter as PDF files. Incomplete applications and those sent by email will not be considered. Reference contact details will be requested after the interview. For questions, contact Professor Jan Stake at [email protected].
